Gear

Like many others, the photographic gear I use has changed several times over the years. I’ve gone from APS-C DSLR to full frame mirrorless but in 2024 I switched from my aging Sony A7RIII and lens line-up to the OM SYSTEM Micro 4/3 system.

The feature functions of the OM-1 MarkII combined with the astoundingly lightweight of the kit make OM SYSTEM the perfect fit for my gear bag.

Olympus 8-25mm f/4.0 Pro

The Olympus 8-25mm f/4.0 Pro is an outstanding wide angle lens perfect for landscape photography. Although somewhat heavier than the 12-40mm, the 8-25mm f/4.0 Pro remains compact while delivering a full frame equivalent of 16-50mm.

Olympus 7-14mm f/2.8 Pro

The Olympus 7-14mm f/2.8 Pro is the lens for ultra-wide angle photography and astrophotography. I pair lens this with the OM-1 MarkII body using Starry Sky Auto Focus for pinpoint sharp stars. This lens has an aspherical front element meaning traditional filters can’t be fitted but this is not a problem when paired with the built-in computational ND and GND filters of the OM-1 MarkII.

Olympus 60mm F2.8 Macro

When I want to get close in for some macro photography, I’m using the Olympus 60mm F2.8 Macro. This is an extremely small and sharp 1:1 macro lens. The 60mm f/2.8 is fast and lightweight allowing it to be easily used for handheld or mini-tripod macro images.
